/ SUPERFEET® TURNS UP THE HEAT Top
Recently Superfeet launched the new REDhot and hotPINK cold weather insoles for men and women. They feature new forefoot technology engineered to protect feet from the cold when skiing, snowboarding or just hanging out in the snow. The insoles have Outlast® top covers and new Thermo-Foil and AirWeave technology layers that regulate temperature.
We worked with Superfeet to create new packaging geared toward the winter sports enthusiast – albeit with a bit of a colourful twist. Each box has bright foil treatments to complement the thermo-foil on the insole. Bending the foil around the box corners was an interesting and worthwhile challenge and made for a great effect. The boxes are UV litho’d with a dramatic spot red and corresponding pink. We created cutaway illustrations on the rear of the package depicting how the insole works to regulate heat. We created a subtle tone-on-tone ‘flame’ effect with dull and gloss trapped UV finish on the package front to add some edge to the theme. The new brands have been an immediate hit with consumers and are selling extremely well according to Michael Squarek, Marketing Manager at Superfeet Worldwide.
/ COASTLINES WINS AT 38th CREATIVITY AWARDS Top

The 38th Annual Creativity Awards, named Coastlines as a ‘winner’ in the Website Category for the Trafalgar Website campaign in August. This is now the third award handed out by our industry peers.
This year, judges from some of the United States’ most prestigious design firms evaluated the work produced by their peers and students. As well, The 38th Annual Creativity Awards received a record 2,800 entries from over 44 countries and 45 US states. The competition showcases work from around the globe in the Annual published at the close of each year’s competition.
“We’re grateful to everyone at Trafalgar Kuwait for allowing us to see our creative vision through to completion. Once again we’d like to acknowledge our brilliant team who helped us at key stages both in Kuwait and here in Vancouver. I think this project set the bar high and we hope to challenge it once again.” said, Byron Dowler, Creative Director and Principal of Coastlines.
About The Creativity Annual Awards:
Established in 1970, The Creativity Annual Awards is based in Louisville, KY and is one of the longest running international advertising and graphic design competitions in the world. A print, web, advertising and media design competition, each year the judges choose the best from all over the world to be reproduced in the 400-page Creativity Awards Annual.

With about 130 part-time and full-time programs ranging from literacy to bachelor’s degrees, Vancouver Community College is the place to start for student’s foundation skills and career training and to get the skills they need to work in the field of their choice.
With so many careers to choose from, many students wonder where to begin... and wonder where to go next. To address this marketing dilemma Coastlines created the Start Here exhibit campaign in collaboration with Bob Altwein, In-house Designer; Elizabeth Thomson, Marketing Officer and Stephen Barrington, Director. The challenge was developing an integrated concept that could appropriately market various faculties without the use of category specific images. We gained inspiration from a recent assignment to London where we could access the Underground’s vast network to travel to locations in the city. The end result was an illustrative way to inspire students to choose VCC for their career path.

The Society of Graphic Designers/BC Chapter and event sponsor Rhino Print Solutions are putting on the second in an ongoing series of design speaking events. For this event we are proud to welcome some of the most recognized names and industry leaders in Design Sustainability.
Marc Alt, Brian Dougherty and Eric Karjaluoto will each present their strategies and suggestions for practical activism within a design practice. Following their presentations GDC/VI President, Valerie Elliott will moderate a question and answer period.
