Shaughnessy

One of the oldest and most prestigious neighborhoods, Shaughnessy is predominately a residential area featuring beautiful botanical gardens, peaceful parks, and large historical properties. This neighborhood is, without a doubt, one of the most desirable communities in Vancouver. Its magnificent and large historic mansions with beautifully manicured lots bordered by giant trees make Shaughnessy the perfect retreat for the uber-wealthy.

The abundance of parks and green space in Shaughnessy gives this neighborhood a tropical look. Going for a stroll or walking your dog in one of these parks is quite relaxing. The VanDusen Botanical Gardens is one of the most acclaimed green spaces in this neighborhood. This 55-acre area of lush landscape in the heart of Vancouver boasts more than 7,500 plant specimens. The VanDusen Festival of Lights, held here during winter, turns this garden into an exquisite wonderland. More than one million lights are used to illuminate this garden during the holiday season, giving it an ethereal look.

There’s no shortage of shopping or dining options in this neighborhood, too. South Granville, which features an excellent selection of fine art stores, local shops, fine dining, lifestyle, and pharmacies, is just a short drive away. The Kerrisdale Village to the south of Shaughnessy features older, locally-owned businesses and newer boutiques, as well as chic eateries, cafés, and organic markets. A visit to this village on the weekend is a must as you can find everything from bike shops to bakeries here. You can also find large retailers like Kerrisdale Cameras, Hills of Kerrisdale, and London Drugs.

This Vancouver neighborhood has a very prestigious vibe. The stunning landscape and beautifully maintained large homes give it a very opulent look. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, this is the neighborhood to choose, as there’s very little vehicle or foot traffic. When you see the old, large mansions in this neighborhood, it's not hard to imagine the kinds of lavish parties and events that must have taken place during the past century.
